I, Mrs Anuradha Singh, am a military housewife. My tryst with colour paints and brush on the matt canvas happened about eight years ago when I gave in, to the mystical and alluring call of oil painting. I chose to be self-tutored and instinct-driven over formal painting training. The journey ever since, to metamorphose my thoughts and imaginations into in indelible colour marks on the canvas, has been incredible. 

In the last few years, I have had many exhibitions and have gained significant experience in the process. I am glad to say that my clients have been delighted and that I have been able to add my colours to the canvas of their life. Early Years & Motivation

1. Born in Jammu in 1972 in a Military family, I got my motivation to pursue art from my father, who besides a Soldier had a keen eye and a passion for art. A dental surgeon by profession, married to an army officer, I always maintained a strong pull towards art.

2. During my recent visit to Kashmir, I was mesmerized by the beauty of a resurgent Kashmir which kindled a desire in me to capture my thoughts with my paint brush as a tribute to the indomitable Spirit of ‘Kashmiryat’.

3. Truly called ‘The paradise on Earth’ Kashmir is indeed resplendent with Chinar trees, the lotus blossoms, the shikara’s and the silver Dal Lake that turns golden at the crack of dawn.      Special Achievements.

(a)      The interest in art got an opportunity to be showcased in an Art exhibition with an all women’s group called Akanksha in Chitra Kala Parishad, Bengaluru in May 2019. 

(b)      Consecutively, due to the Pandemic, art exhibitions also went online and I was able to be a part of an exhibition by an NGO called Art Cancare to raise money for the poor cancer patients in Kerala. 

(c)      Other art exhibitions  were also done in 2020for NGOs which supported women and the girl child.

       Children.    We are blessed with two boys, Krishanu Mukherjee and Kironmoy Mukherjee. Krishanu is 19 years and is preparing for entrance exams for law while Kironmoy is 17 years, is in class 12^th in the APS Pune and is an NDA aspirant.

I work in all the medium but primarily in WaterColour medium.

Passion is what defines everyone and painting is something which does that for me, watercolour to be exact. Being an introvert person, I have chosen my paintings to express my moods and feelings.​

Flowers seem to me as one of the purest forms on the earth never ceases to draw my attention in its natural form. I love to portray flowers, to sync with my emotions, with bright and intense colours. My emotions flow on paper with these colours. I mostly use analogous colours in my paintings. Analogues colours give you the sense of balance and serene. It communicates a message of tranquillity. ​

As a child, I was driven by paints and colours but lost the direction due to studies, jobs & family responsibilities. An Engineer (Masters) by qualification but an Artist from within, I reoriented myself and decided to embrace my passion and haven’t looked back thereafter.   

I bridged the gap with Diploma in Fine Arts after a  gap of 17 years since my school. Though I love all the mediums but watercolour attracts me the most. Inspite of being technically complicated, its transparency and natural free flow has always excited me.  

Education:

1.      One year diploma in fine arts from Himanshu arts Institute, New Delhi in 2014-2015

2.      Informal watercolour classes for 6 months from Tarak Shankar, a watercolour artist (2016).

3.      Watercolour classes for 6 months from Praween karmakar, a renowned watercolour artist (2017).

4.       Bachelor of Engineering (1998- 2002).

5.      Masters of Technology (2003- 2005).

I dare to dream; I work to live my dream and with gods grace I am living my dream. Yes, I have this vivid dream that I want to be a famous portrait artist and working hard to achieve it. Hailing from Nagpur, I’m a Gunners wife, a silent rank for the past 25 years.

The seeds were sown early in childhood where I was asked by my father to join art classes to enhance my skills in drawing and sketching. I used to represent my school in various drawing contests and won several awards in many competitions. Peak was a silver medal in an international contest at the tender age of 13.

After getting married, I was blessed with two kids. Time flew and children are now adults, the fire within me to do something with my life led me to start doing sketches. I always loved making sketches but the passion got ignited four years back when a random sketch of mine gained popularity on social media. In fact, a Facebook group comprising of Army Ladies called Real Indian Army Wives was my real support, which constantly provided me with so much love that I was motivated to continue making artworks in all mediums. In future I would like to conduct online workshops and classes for all ages and showcase my work in exhibitions.

I know that there is only one way to pursue your goals, that is just keep going on and giving it all you have.

Vaishali Singh is a freelance artist who is passionate about colours and the vibrancy they bring in life. She enjoys dabbling in both watercolours as well as oils.
