News Paper Article

“Bravery is not the Absence of Fear but Action in the Face of Fear.”

This is what Master Aditya Jagtap, s/o L/Nk Sudhir Chand Jagtap (Retd), a Class 5 student at Army Public School, Jr Wing, Pune, chose to follow while selflessly risking his life to save a three year old girl from the jaws of death. Aditya's alertness and quick presence of mind was critical to him becoming the saviour angel for the girl but more than that it was probably the sense of values and bravery that would have been ingrained in him at home by his ex-serviceman father and also at his school. The small three-year-old baby girl was sitting innocently in the middle of the road in Papadevasti near the new railway station totally unmindful of the fact that a blue speeding car was rushing towards her and the driver had not noticed her. Aditya, who happened to be passing by on his bicycle, saw the impending accident. Without sparing a thought for his own safety, he bravely jumped into the pathway of the car and pulled the baby to safety in the very nick of time. While he did sustain some injuries himself, the little boy was unfazed and matter of fact in stating that it was his duty to act as he did. The numerous onlookers were amazed and floored by young Aditya’s quick thinking and dauntless courage. Upon being asked as to who his inspiration was, he shyly smiled and replied that in addition to the military values ingrained in him, he was also taken in by the superheroes in the TV shows who save people’s lives selflessly.
